CAREY WINS THE LABEL MENSWEAR OPEN
Damian Carey (13) took a great win in last Saturdays Open event sponsored by local Menswear store “The Label” with an excellent return of 42pts,the runner up continuing his excellent late season form was Stephen McCay (5) with a level par 41pts,Mickey Kelly (10) took third place also with 41 pts with Anthony Brennan (16) in fourth spot with 40pts, Brian O’Kane (19) had also 40 pts and took the final Nett prize, the gross went to Fred McGavigan (5) with 35 gross pts, the nines were won by Paul Kavanagh (14) with 22pts for the outward nine and to club President Paul O’Hare (11) with 21 pts for the inward nine.

Brian Patton Memorial day
The ninth annual Brian Patton Memorial day as always saw an excellent turnout of players in both the Men’s and the ladies sections, the selected Memorial T-Shirt colour this year was bright yellow and it was without doubt the dominant colour around the course and club on the day, all the proceeds of the entire day are to go once again to Macmillan Cancer. The winner of the main competition following on from his rostrum finish the previous day was Anthony Brennan (15) with an excellent return of 42 pts on a day that was far from easy for golf with heavy showers prevailing for the entire day, the runner up playing in the same morning four-ball was Eddie Finlay (14) just a point behind on 41pts, third place went to the main competition organiser Martin Patton (12) with 40pts, fourth came Ben Corry (7) with 39 pts with Colin McGarrigle fifth also with 39pts, there were three winners in the gross section on Sunday with Enda Kennedy (0) in sublime form returning a four under par total of 65 to take first gross shooting no less than five birdies on his back nine!, second gross went to Patrick McCrossan (6) with 34 gross pts and third gross went to Martin McDermott (5) with 33 gross pts, the nines went to Seamus Friel (21) with 21pts for his front nine and to Tommy Sharkey (24) with 21 pts on his back nine. In the Ladies section the winner was Roisin Corry (17) with 39 pts with Thelma Darragh (30) the runner up with 38 pts.

Thursday open
The penultimate Thursday Open competition took place last Thursday and saw a win for John White (24) with 40pts, the runner up was Ryan Patton (12) also with 40 pts with Paul Harley (24) third with 39pts, the gross prize went to Stephen Mc Cay with 31 gross points. The Thursday club will get underway on Thursday 6th September all members who can play weekly, the joining fee is £5.00 with a weekly entry of £4.00 which includes two’s!

Team News
No joy for Peter Doherty’s Donegal Junior league team who lost 4-3 at Donegal Golf club on Saturday to Ballybofey & Stranorlar G.C, The O’Hare cup team captained by Tommy Forbes were in action in the first leg of their Tyrone & Fermanagh final with Castlehume on Wednesday past and hold a 12-4 lead to take in to the return leg next Tuesday at the Co.Fermanagh venue.

The Ladies branch held a weekly competition with the proceeds going to Knockavoe School, the winner was Norma Brogan (14) with 39pts,the category one winner was Shauna Stewart (13) with 33pts,the category two winner was Geraldine McCrory(33) with 33 pts, with the new category three prize going to Carole McFeeters (33) with 37pts.

Last Man Standing with a £1000 prize is set to get underway next Saturday 1st September, the entry fee is a one off payment of £10.00.

The club Lotto bonus ball winner this month was Eddie Falconer who scooped the £300.00 prize, the £50 bar credit winner was Kieran McAleer.

Tickets are currently on sale for the Bay City Roller-world & Smokie Tribute night on Saturday 29th September priced at £12.50, don’t leave it too late! Sunday lunch will be served this Sunday from 12 noon until 3pm with the All-Ireland final being shown on the big screens at 3.30pm, music will follow at 6pm with Thomas Gillespie, Good Luck Tyrone!

VETERAN CURRY IN HOT FORM
Liam Curry (11) turned back the clock to take the win in Saturday’s Open stableford event with an excellent 40pts in tricky conditions, Liam got to the turn with 21pts on his card and despite three closing bogies he had done enough to take the win from second placed Ronnie Wiley who played great golf on his second nine to register 22 pts and 39 pts overall, third place went to John Gallagher (18) a further point behind on 38 pts, the gross winner on Saturday was Fred McGavigan (5) with 31 gross pts with the nines prizes going to Vincent Bradley (14) who had reached the turn with 21 pts and to Darius Bogle (16) who compiled 22 pts on his back nine. Congratulations to competition secretary Patrick McCrossan who had a hole in one at the second hole with a perfect eight iron shot on Saturday in this event!

Thursday Open
Conditions were far from ideal last Thursday for the Thursday Open with a lot of early morning rain and a strong breeze prevailing throughout the day, the winner was Darius Bogle (18) picking up his first singles win with a great total of 42 pts, the runner up just one point behind was David Mullen (12) third place went to Terry Conroy (11) with 39 pts, Stephen Conroy playing in the same four-ball took first gross with 29 gross points.

Monday Open
The latest Monday open was played off yellow tee’s and saw Jim Callaghan (17) maintain his excellent run of Summer scores posting 42 pts, one better than the runner up Hugh Byrne (14) with Ciaran Doherty (8) in third also with 41 pts.

Clare’s Hair Salon ladies teams
Last Tuesday’s Team event for Ladies was kindly sponsored by Clare’s hair salon Strabane and saw a very good entry. The winners were Catherine Neeson, Heather Mitchell and Geraldine McCrory with 86pts, the runners up on 85 pts were Margaret McCrossan, Margaret Hynes and Christine Lynch from Ballybofey & Stranorlar golf club, third place went to Dolores Devenney, Sharon Maloney and Stephanie Canning with 83 pts also from Ballybofey golf club. There are entry forms posted in the Ladies locker rooms for both Presidents Mixed on Wednesday 29th August and for Past Captains day on Friday 31st August.

Last week’s £50 bar credit draw winner was Liam McKane.

Another series of “Last Man Standing” is set to get underway on Saturday 1st September the entry fee is a one off payment of £10 with again a guaranteed first prize of £1000.

This Sunday will mark the 9th Brian Patton Memorial day at the club, there are still some early afternoon spaces available to book on the BRS.

This year’s Thursday club will begin on Thursday 6th September, full details are posted on the notice board and on facebook, there are some minor changes in effect this term.

COOKE IS CLUB CHAMPION
Scratch handicap golfer Conal Cooke was the winner of the Valerie Manning sponsored club championship played on Saturday last to retain his title he won last year with another sub-par round of 68 gross to win by a commanding 6 shots margin, Conal started his round with 8 straight pars before a welcome birdie three at the 9th hole, two bogies on the back 9 at the 11th & 16th were more than compensated by birdies at the 13th &15th holes to set his early morning total that set the mark for the day. The runner up on what turned out to be a difficult day for scoring was Stephen McCay (5) with 74 gross with third place going to Paul McGill (6) also with 74 Gross. In the Nett section the winner was Colin McCafferty (12) with 65 Nett ,Vincent Bradley (15) a player very much in form was the runner up with 66 Nett with George Hunter (24) third with 67 Nett, the categories went to Fred McGavigan (5) with 70 Nett in , club captain Frankie Houston (14) with 68 Nett in category two and Eugene Patton with 70 Nett in category three, the presentations for the Club championship will take place this coming Friday night 17th August at 8.30pm sharp alongside The Irish road Motors, Murphys on the Green, FMC Accountants and the Northern Confectionary competitions, all winners are asked to be in attendance.

Declan Devine Monday open final day
With a shotgun start in operation the final day of the superbly run Declan Devine Frozen foods got underway on Sunday past with most of the 56 qualifiers lined up to compete for the brilliant prizes on offer, the winner continuing a very successful full season was Ryan Patton (13) with 41pts,the runner up was Kevin Gallagher (5) with 40 pts with Peter O’Connell (13) in third also with 40pts,Peter also won the nearest the pin prize, the gross for the second consecutive Sunday went to competition secretary Patrick McCrossan (5) with 31 gross pts, Martin Finlay won the front nine with 23 pts with Dr Ciaran Kelly winning the back nine with 24 pts, the longest drive prize went to Michael Houston. Many thanks to our competition sponsor Declan Devine for the fabulous prizes on the day and his very helpful input throughout the event.

NORTHERN CONFECTIONARY OPEN
The Northern confectionary sponsored open took place last Thursday at the club and was dominated by players of 21 handicap! with Glenn Roulston (21) achieving his first ever win with an excellent 42pts,the runner up also new to the rostrum was Ruairi McElroy (21) with 41 pts, Johnny Potts (21)also with 41pts Paul McGill (6) was the gross winner with 31 gross points

Monday Open
There was a relatively small turnout for this week’s Monday open with Martin Finlay (19) the winner with 40 pts followed by Clark Klam also with 40pts,next week’s Monday open will be played off the Yellow Markers with an entry fee off £4.00 which will include the 2’s competition.

Well done to Peter Doherty who have made it through to the next round of the Donegal Junior league getting the two matches they needed at Gweedore G.C. on Sunday past and also to Declan Devine and his North-West league team who have qualified for the semi-finals in that competition.

Ladies Golf
Last week’s ladies competition was the Gallagher cup and was won in some style by Catherine Neeson (16) with a brilliant total of 64 Nett, the winner in category one was Anne Sharkey (16) with 71 Nett with Imelda Doherty (32) the winner in category two with 70 Nett.

Junior golf
Junior Captain Michael Doherty with host his Junior’s captains day on Wednesday 22nd August with both an 18holes competition and a five holes competition for under 10’s. This Friday will see the final day of the Seamus Duffy Golf junior series of weekly 9 holes competitions last week’s winner was Cormac Carlin with 20pts Conor Byrne was 2nd with 19pts and Dylan Goan was third with 16pts ,the current league standings are John Duffy 15pts,Dylan Goan 11pts,Adam Gillespie 10pts,Oran Donaghy 9pts and Conor Carlin 7pts,there are double points up for grabs for this week’s final day which should contribute to an exciting finish, good luck to all our juniors.

A new game of “Last Man Standing” is set to get underway on Saturday 1st September 2019 with the entry fee again £10.00, there is a guaranteed first prize of £1000.

This week’s £50 bar credit draw was won by Martin Gormley.

IRISH ROAD MOTORS WIN FOR RORY
Early morning starter Rory McColgan (10) led practically from start to finish on Saturday to win the Irish Road Motors Accident repair centre open at Strabane with an excellent 41pts from his nearest challenger veteran George Hunter (25) a poor duo of double bogeys at the final two holes maybe costing George the win the only real blemishes an otherwise excellent card. Third place went to Francie Devine (10) with a very steady 39pts including a welcome birdie 3 at the 18th hole, fourth went to Paddy Kennedy (4) with a one over par round of 39pts also, Stephen Acheson (13) took the final nett prize, he too with 39pts, a very popular total on the day. The gross prize went to Conal Cooke (scr) who was in top form posting a three under gross total of 66 which again was 39pts on the day, Conal’s round comprised of 5 birdies, 2 bogies and 11 pars! The nines on Saturday went to Tommy Sharkey (24) with 22 pts for the first nine and to Michael Doyle (20) with 24pts for the back nine.

Jimmy Duncan Memorial Open
There was an excellent turnout on Sunday in both the Ladies & gents sections to honour the memory of one of the clubs most popular members the late Jimmy Duncan, congratulations to Jimmy’s family who worked tirelessly in pulling this successful competition together, especially James Duncan who was the tournaments main sponsor, many thanks also to Paddy O’Kane the competition co-ordinator. On the playing front the win went to Oliver Creswell (14) with his best return in some time 41pts, the runner up was the ever improving Liam McKane (22) just a point away with 40pts, Peter Doherty (5) took third spot with a solid 39pts, fourth place went to our own “Wee local Dub” Joe Rowley (12) also with 39pts,George McCay (20) took the final nett prize again with 39 pts, the gross prize went to competition secretary Paddy McCrossan(5) with 33 gross pts, the nines went to Sean McCrossan (17) with 22 pts for the first nine and to Brian O’Kane with the same total for the back nine. In the Ladies section the winner was Anne Sharkey with 39 pts the runner up was Norma Brogan with 37 pts with Jennifer Rouse in third with 36 pts. With still some sponsorship to come in the total so far raised for the children’s cancer Hospital in Dublin’s sits at almost £3000

FMC ACCOUNTANTS OPEN
Many thanks to F.M.C. Accountants who sponsored last Thursday’s competition. The runaway winner was Luke McGeehan (21) with an eye catching 46pts, Luke has recently returned to the game and judging by this return his handicap should decrease rapidly!. The runner up with a great total of 41pts was Dan Downey (14) third went to the very much in form Stephen McCay (5) who was only one over par in recording his total of 40pts, the gross prize went to Paul O’Reilly (6) with 32 gross pts.

Declan Devine Monday Open (6th August '18)
The final qualifier for next Sundays Declan Devine Frozen Foods shoot out was played on Monday with the win going in some style to Paddy Doyle (18) with 43pts, the runner up was Caolan Crawford (3) with a one under par 40pts, Mark McDermott (14) took a qualifying place in third with 39pts, the gross went to Kevin Gallagher (5) with 31 gross pts. Also qualifying from Monday are Keith Patterson (8) as Caolan Crawford had already booked his place and also the leading visitor on the day Declan Catterson (11) from Newtownstewart G.C. Sundays event will see a multi-tee start from eight different holes from 11am,a light breakfast will be served at 10.15am with a buffet meal for all competitors at 4.15pm in the Carricklee Room, Niall Gallagher will be on stage from 5pm-7pm, good luck to all in pursuit of the big prizes with first prize a four-ball at the Irish open 2019 venue Lahinch G.C & Doonbeg G.C with an overnight stay at the Lahinch Hotel!

Junior Golf
It’s been great to see the junior academy in full swing over the summer months, man thanks to Seamus Duffy and his team for taking the coaching which has been very enjoyable for all the children. There has also been a weekly 9 holes stableford competition for the juniors looked after by Ronnie Wiley the latest winner was John Duffy with 19pts, 2nd place went to Oran Donaghy also with 19pts with third going to Conor Byrne. Congratulations to Conor who recently won all three of his matches in the All-Ireland boys under 16 boys representing Ulster in their title win.

Tommy Forbes’s O’Hare cup team have advanced to the final of that competition winning 16.5-3.5 when the match was called in at Aughnacloy last Tuesday evening, a fine home leg performance the previous week had put them in a great position.

The winner of this weeks £50 bar credit draw was Sean McCartney.

A new Last Man Standing is set to get underway at the start of September with again a prize of £1000 to the winner, £200 to the winning seller. Entries can be taken at the bar or from the many sellers, the entry fee is £10.00.
